Biography
Max E. Bender was born in Indiana September 2, 1922. During World War II he was a member of the Army Air Corps serving with the 8th Air Force, 91st Bomb Group as a co-pilot. His B-17 Flying Fortress was shot down by fighters and crashed at Silberstr on July 20, 1944. He was captured and held as a POW in Germany at Stalag Luft 3 AND 7A until liberation in April, 1945.

A mechanical enqineer with Container Corp. of America before retiring, he was also a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, the VFW and the American Legion.
